Jest on wynikiem inspiracji Huntera S. utworem "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" Tompsona. A7X podpisali kontrakt z Warner Bros po raz kolejny zmieniając styl. Tym razem bardziej w stronę glam rocka (inaczej glitter rock), a także jednego z nowych odłamów, tj. NWOBHM (z ang. Nowa fala brytyjskiego heavy metalu). Wenę czerpali w dużej mierzę, wzorując się na Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses i zespole Pantera. M. Shadows skupił się na bardziej melodyjnym śpiewaniu, oraz na stosowaniu krzyków i wrzasków, które z kolei były częstym zabiegiem na pierwszych nagraniach zespołu. "City of Evil" odniosła duży sukces. Wspięła się na szczyt list TRL, dzięki singlom "Bat Country", "Beast and the Harlot" (znanym dziś z gry Guitar Hero 2), a także "Seize the Day". Avenged Sevenfold ostatnio skończyli nagrywać DVD, zapisując na niej historię ich pracy w zespole. Została wydana w Kwietniu 2007 przez wytwórnię Warner Bros. Jednym słowem - zespół nie zwalnia tempa, nagrywając coraz ciekawsze i lepsze płyty. Płyta Avenged Sevenfold jest nieco mniej ambitna niż City of Evil. Niestety pod koniec 2009 roku członkowie oraz fani zespołu doznali szoku na wieść o tym, że James "The Rev" Sullivan - znakomity perkusista Avenged Sevenfold od początku powstania grupy (1999), został znaleziony martwy w swoim domu 28 grudnia. Jest to ogromna strata dla samego zespołu, fanów oraz całego przemysłu muzycznego. Zespół w drugiej połowie lutego 2010 roku wkroczył do studia, aby zarejestrować piąty album. Ma być hołdem dla Jimmy'ego, jak i fanów z całego świata, którzy również starali się pocieszyć rodzinę zmarłego artysty. Materiał do albumu powstawał pod koniec ubiegłego roku, The Rev wyraził opinię, że to najdojrzalszy i najlepszy album w historii zespołu.
